I'm a Cover Girl!!!!!!

I'm always up for a challenge so this summer I sent in a Christmas ornament for Cloth, Paper & Scissors Ornament Challenge. I very quickly threw the ornament together from scraps in my closet. I finished the ornament by covering a button with a photo of my parents. I didn't realize that someone else would be receiving it so...oh well, I hope they enjoy it!!!

International Quilt Scene

A new article on my Flower Brooches is in the recent Winter 2011-2012 International Quilt Festival Quilt Scene Magazine. It's among the favorite Make & Take projects for Make It University. I recently received an email from a woman who wanted the instructions so she could make some creative ribbons to present for her Quilt Guild Shows. What a great idea!!!

SAQA Seasonal Palette Acceptance

I am so excited and honored to receive my acceptance for the Seasonal Palette SAQA exhibit!!!!
The exhibit will debut in Houston at the International Quilt Festival, November 2012 and travel from there. It's a unique exhibit because each of us (38 artists) is assigned a season and we are to create a 78" x 32" quilt around that theme. The jurors have requested that I follow my tomato theme and stitch & paint techniques. We also will keep a journal displaying the creative process. I have my piece of paper 78" x 32" cut out and on my wall to begin...gotta go get to work!!!

Chicago CREATE Retreat

I haven't stopped working since coming back from Chicago. Chicago motivated me! Wanted to post some of the photos from the retreat. My Soy Batik class are showing off all of the work they produced. Also pictured are the identical twin sisters from the same class. All of the students in all of my classes were so motivated to produce and have fun! And we did!

CREATE Retreat in Costa Mesa, California

Still amazed with the work that was produced in my classes. Creating Batik with soy wax was a favorite of everyone. We had such a good time! Thanks to Alina who raided the recycle newspaper bin at the hotel so that we could iron the wax out of all of the fabric. There was a lot of oooing and aaaahing. And lots of sharing of ideas and techniques!
My evening class of Creating your own Fabric was a marathon in itself. Trying to demonstrate over 20 techniques in 3 hours was very fast paced but was accomplished. Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos...oh well, next time in Chicago.

CREATE Retreat in Costa Mesa, California

Images of fruits, vegetables, flowers, architecture, hearts and more were all drawn on canvas and painted with water soluble crayons. I also taught how to transfer newsprint on to organza fabric. We even sewed on deli-wrap paper and incorporated that into the quilts. Jennifer was our wonderful Bernina Rep who helped out with all of our sewing- from canvas to paper!

CREATE Retreat in Costa Mesa, California

Just got back from an exciting week teaching at CREATE in Costa Mesa. My students were an amazing and talented group in all 3 of my classes. I enjoyed learning from all of them! They were amazed with what they produced in such a short time. Of course these pieces will be finished at home with stitching, quilting and binding to complete an art quilt. This is only a few from the class. Enjoy!

The Space Between

Yeah!!! I was accepted for the 3rd year in a row for "Dinner at 8 Artists: The Space Between" Exhibit that debuts at the Long Beach International Quilt Festival in July. The exhibit will travel to Houston and maybe more places.... My quilt is titled: "The Red Tomato"

David Taylor Workshop

My sister and I took a workshop from David Taylor at Asilomar for a week. I love his animals- especially Sir Francis his pig. His quilts are of larger than life barn animals-- and detailed!!!! I decided to do a Sea Turtle for my daughters new condo. I still have the background but my turtle is done!

Hoffman Fabric Tour

I went on a tour of the Hoffman Fabric Facility in Mission Viejo on my birthday. Absolutely loved seeing and touching all of the fabrics! It was nice to know that they still employ artists to paint some of the scenes for their prints. Jamie Fingal set up the tour for SAQA members.

Art Weekend in Palm Springs

I was joined by 3 fellow artists (Susan Avery Clark, Helen Shafer Garcia & Jane LaFazio) in Palm Springs for the weekend. Between laughs we produced art: Opposite hand portraits, Notan cutouts, Animal designs and Encaustic designs. We also made time to help Elvis celebrate his birthday with a tour of his house.
