Back from Houston

Had an exciting time in Houston. The SAQA Seasonal Palette Exhibit was well received-- loved seeing the quilts displayed on the hard walls.

Bonnie McCaffrey interviewed the Dinner@8 Artists from the Rituals exhibit. The vid cast will be coming soon. The exciting news is that "Milo" will be traveling to the Netherlands and exhibited May 3-5, 2013-- thanks to our curators: Jamie and Leslie!!!!! Milo can also be seen in Quilting Arts Magazine Oct/Nov 2012 issue.

Chicago Class August 2012

Another great Stitch & Paint Animal Portrait Class in Chicago. I was amazed at every individual unique style using the same crayons! And the best part was hearing stories about all of our favorite pets!

Learn to make a mixed-media quilt using a variety of fun and non-intimidating techniques with artist Jeannie Palmer Moore. Following Jeannie’s step-by-step process, you can achieve a painterly style on a piece that includes stitched outlines and layers of interest from transfers and paper elements.

Get started by tracing and then free-motion stitching a simple contour drawing on canvas. Next, water-soluble crayons are used to color the design (no need to stay within the lines). The colors are blended using a paintbrush, and Jeannie demonstrates basic design techniques, including how to create dimension with shadows and highlights. To build up the layers and create more interest, newsprint transfers (on organza) and transfers from color photocopies are added. Jeannie shares two techniques for making transfers: a full image transfer and a deconstructed image transfer using a Thermofax screen. And finally, one more mixed-media element is added: stitched deli-wrap paper.

Join Jeannie to learn her methods for combining all of these techniques into a colorful mixed-media quilt.

Quilting Arts TV and Video Taping

Independent Study with Jane Dunnewold

In January I spent a week in San Antonio with Leslie Tucker Jenison during Jane Dunnewold's Independent Study week. The 10 of us had such a great time! The whole week was charged with energy and creativity. I worked on my "tomatoes" for SAQA's Seasonal Palette. Screening on top of my silk tie transfers. I came home very motivated.
