Create with paint, stitch, and canvas to make a mixed-media quilt using a variety of fun and non-intimidating techniques!
Write a reviewLearn to make a mixed-media quilt using a variety of fun and non-intimidating techniques with artist Jeannie Palmer Moore. Following Jeannie’s step-by-step process, you can achieve a painterly style on a piece that includes stitched outlines and layers of interest from transfers and paper elements.
Get started by tracing and then free-motion stitching a simple contour drawing on canvas. Next, water-soluble crayons are used to color the design (no need to stay within the lines). The colors are blended using a paintbrush, and Jeannie demonstrates basic design techniques, including how to create dimension with shadows and highlights. To build up the layers and create more interest, newsprint transfers (on organza) and transfers from color photocopies are added. Jeannie shares two techniques for making transfers: a full image transfer and a deconstructed image transfer using a Thermofax screen. And finally, one more mixed-media element is added: stitched deli-wrap paper.
Join Jeannie to learn her methods for combining all of these techniques into a colorful mixed-media quilt. |
